Golden Leaf's teas are from the Yunnan Province in Southwest China. It is one of the first tea producing regions in China.
Dark Tea / Hei Cha
In China the word for dark is Hei and the word for tea is Cha.
Dark tea / Hei Cha / 黑茶 has a long history of use dating back to China approximately 5,000 years ago.
Dark Tea is made through post fermentation from the stacking of the raw materials. Over time the colour of the raw materials darken, this is how the Dark Tea gets its name.
Dark Tea is derived from the plant species Camellia sinensis which is the Latin name for tea.
Dark Tea has a mellow and unique taste. Compared to green tea some would say it is strong.
Dark tea is beloved by Tibetan, Mongol and Uygur people and considered a necessity by them as it provides numerous health benefits.
1. Vitamin and mineral supplements
Dark Tea contains rich vitamins, minerals and nutrients. There are also antioxidants, proteins, amino acids, and carbohydrates.
2. Digestive Aid
The caffeine, vitamins, amino acids and phospholipids in the Dark Tea helps the body to digest and regulate the fat metabolism.
Dark Tea improves the overall balance of bacteria in the digestive system and aids digestion to relieve flatulence and indigestion.
The caffeine stimulation can enhance the secretion of gastric juice, which increases appetite and helps digestion.

Dark Tea contains theanine and catechins that help soften and relax the blood vessels. This process increases the size of blood vessels which allows the blood to circulate easier which helps lower blood pressure.
It was observed between May 1990 to May 1991, 55 retired military personnel from the The Chinese People's Liberation Army General Hospital had high cholesterol. After continuous use Dark Tea for 180 days (3 g daily) 50 of the 55 military personnel had their cholesterol and blood pressure significantly reduced.
5. Antioxidants and Cancer Prevention
Free radicals are constantly created by the human body. Dark Tea is rich in antioxidant substances such as catechins, tea pigments, flavonoids, vitamin C, vitamin E, D , carotene, zinc, manganese, elements of copper and selenium. Studies show that antioxidants may slow or possibly prevent the development of cancer.
6. Lowers the Risk of Type 2 Diabetes
Dark Tea has the highest content of polysaccharides compared to other types of tea. Polysaccharides may benefit people with diabetes because they help retard absorption of glucose.
7. Antimicrobial
Antimicrobial is a substance that kills or inhibits the growth of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, or protozoans. Theaflavin in Dark Tea has showed antimicrobial activities at nanomolar levels, and was more active than medicinal antibiotics, such as tetracycline or vancomycin, at comparable concentrations.
8. Anti-inflammatory
Inflammation helps your body fight infection and clear away damaged tissue. But inflammation can become a chronic condition if your body fails to shut off this reaction, or activates it when there is no apparent trigger.
Thearubigins are a major component of Dark Tea. Studies in mice have found that thearubigins helped reduce inflammation in bowel disease.
